Air, authenticity and intricacy
Embracing Asian cultures and Eastern philosophy, the Asian Art Museum redesign project aims to create a sense of authenticity, quaintness, traditions, and trueness to oneself and others
Ideation
Sketches
The idea is to connect the kimono collar with the flower petal. The smooth line transition makes the design more continuous and free-flowing, creating a natural feel.
Incorporating the Gestalt principles of continuity, the design creates a feeling that human and art are intertwined.
Trying out the idea of fiery fire embracing the lady, a sense of timelessness and quaintness, with the bun of the kimono lady

Most satisfied with this result: an lady with a petal wrapped around her, connecting to the kimono collar. Gesture drawing really helps with making the design more fluent and fast

I thought of using a cape/hijab for more mystery in this sketch

The color scheme goes with the basics:
Iterations
Through various iterations, I have decided to go with the design where it seems like the flower both represents the moon and encapsulate the lady in the kimono.
Process and inspiration
I worked by tracing these two drawings to create the profile view of the lady: the lady on the right for her hair and the lady on the left for the overall feel.
The photo on the left also has a very nice lighting and the right ambience for the logo inspiration. A bit of warmth, but gentle and vintage is the feeling I aim for in this design.
